I hope everyone has had a wonderful week and will get to enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend.
We have had a busy week in Room 35...
In science this week we worked on reviewing for our test by filling out a study guide and playing a review game on our devices. We took our first science test on Wednesday! Tests will be coming home with the kiddos next Tuesday. We have now started our second chapter of the year. We are going to be learning about weather and have been collecting data on the weather patterns in St. Louis. We also set up our notebooks for our next investigation where we will be looking at wind speed. We are very excited!
In writing we have been working on various strategies of revision. The students have been working for about two weeks on a personal narrative and we are getting very close to finishing this piece. The kids have been focusing on creating multiple endings for their story and have been thinking about which ending truly tells the audience about the "heart" of their story.
In math we have covered powers and exponents, the distributive property, rounding, and multiplication patterns. In all of these areas it is so important that the kids have a base line of multiplication facts. I would encourage them to practice at home using flash cards or even playing multiplication games online. They have been doing awesome but need some practice on those facts! :)
In reading we have been discussing the importance of passing time in the stories we read. We noticed that their are several ways that the author lets us know that the time has changed, by using words or by showing us in pictures. As I say almost every week, our classroom is filled with tremendous readers!
In social studies each group presented their Free Enterprise Project. It was wonderful to see the creative side of them! Some groups shared posters and others made commercials. They had such a fun time doing this project.
I hope that you have a great weekend!!
